Frackers, policemen and television personalities stuffed with straw were on display at Stalmine’s scarecrow competition over the past week.
The contest formed part of the village’s festival week and saw 30 different entrants kit out their scarecrows in all manner of costumes to delight both spectators and judges alike.
The winning entry, entitled Special Branch, featured effigies of tree surgeons at work.
Organiser Pauline Andrews said: “We were absolutely thrilled with it. It was wonderful and next year we’re hoping we’ll double the number of scarecrows.”
