Lytham and St Annes RNLI rescue teams were mobilised after picking up a distress call from a 30ft Colvic yacht off the coast at 1.45am this morning (Monday, August 17).

The team launched its ALB 'Barbara Anne' rescue boat to search for the stranded vessel, which was soon found lost at sea before being towed to Fleetwood Lifeboat Station at the mouth of the River Wyre.

Rescue crews said the two people onboard had become unsure of their position after their steering gear failed overnight.

The RNLI team said they then sailed to Thursby, near Carlisle, to recover the ALB at 7.45am.

"Depending on where the tide is, it’s the nearest and easiest place to recover the ALB from when we’ve dropped at Fleetwood," explained the team.
