Part of Blackpool Promenade was closed after a wooden walkway on some scaffolding came loose as powerful winds battered the Fylde coast.
Fire crews from Forest Gate were called to Bank Hey Street by staff at Blackpool Tower at just after 9.30pm yesterday after reports the scaffolding footboards had come loose.
The Promenade was closed around The Tower as firefighters ensured the scene was safe.
No-one was injured in the incident.
A spokesman for Forest Gate fire station said: “It was some of the scaffolding on the front of the circus building.
“Some of the footboards that are used to walk on had come loose and come down from the top to the floor.”
The Promenade was expected to stay closed until this morning when scaffolding engineers will be called to inspect the structure.
Experts at the Met Office predict winds in Blackpool will continue to be more than 20mph throughout today before easing slightly tomorrow.
