TERRIFIED staff were threatened by armed robbers wielding a claw hammer.
Police were today hunting two masked raiders who burst into the One Stop on Rossendale Avenue North, Thornton and demanded cash.
As one of the men waved a hammer towards the horrified staff members, the other man jumped over the counter and began filling a duvet cover with cigarettes.
The raiders also stole some cash from the till drawer during the shocking raid, which police today revealed happened at 10.30pm on Sunday.
Officers are now trawling through CCTV images and making door-to-door inquires in a bid to find the robbers.
Det Insp Alex Myers, of Fleetwood CID, said: “Two masked men entered the store, one armed with a claw hammer and the other carrying what we believe to be a duvet cover.
“As one man threatened staff, the other jumped over the counter and filled up the duvet cover. As well as the cigarettes, a small amount of cash was stolen.
“It is important the two men responsible are caught and brought to justice.
“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward and contact us. I’m also keen to speak to anyone in the area who may have been offered cheap cigarettes for sale.”
The man who was holding the claw hammer is described as 5ft 8in and of stocky build.
He was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit with three stripes running down the arms and legs and his face was covered.
The second man was wearing a dark jacket, dark blue jeans and had a grey hooded top on and black trainers. He also had a red scarf covering his face.
A spokesman for the One Stop said: “Thankfully no-one was harmed and we are helping the police with their inquiries.”
