Councillors in Fylde are hopeful that the Environment Agency will fund a £17m coastal defence scheme at Fairhaven Lake and Church Scar in Lytham.

Fylde Coun Tommy Threlfall said: “It’s getting increasingly expensive to keep repairing the existing walls. We want to get them right for the long-term.

“The Environment Agency has indicated that it will be sympathetic to granting us the £17m but they need more detail.

“They’ve now given us £175,000 to pay for consultants to assess the current defences and they will start within days.”
