Stars’ tweets of delight at Lewis’ Special Day on TV

Midfielder Tom Cleverley and full-back Ashley Cole both took to the Twitter social media network after watching eight-year-old Lewis Marshall from St Annes featured on Sky Sports’ My Special Day.

The documentary covered Lewis’ VIP treatment at last month’s England v Germany international, which saw the Lytham CE School pupil accompany star striker Wayne Rooney onto the Wembley pitch and stand with him for the anthems prior to kick-off.

Earlier, the VIP package had seen Lewis meet the England players at training and also attend a pre-match press conference, while he and his family enjoyed three 
nights in a London hotel.

After the My Special Day spotlight was broadcast on Sky Sports News, Rooney’s Manchester United team-mate Cleverley tweeted: ‘Enjoyed #myspecialday with @WayneRooney. Was great to meet Lewis’, while Chelsea veteran Cole took to the social network to say: ‘saw #myspecialday, he looked like he had a great time’.

Lewis was diagnosed last year with Deuchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic condition which causes muscle weakness and starts in childhood. It means he will have health problems throughout his life and could be in a wheelchair within two years.

There is no cure and mum Claire, who accompanied Lewis on his trip to London, is to stage a charity night at the Fairhaven pub on January 31, while on March 1, Lewis’ elder sister Beth and uncle John Finnigan plan a skydive. Both events are intended to fund research into Deuchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
