Council chiefs agreed in December that the Star Inn, on South Promenade, should be bulldozed to make way for a new £12m hotel on the site.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson revealed ambitious proposals to redevelop the land by building a 120-bedroom hotel to sit alongside the existing four-star Big Blue.

The Star was built in 1931 to replace the original inn, which stood just a few yards from the sea.

It was opened by the Pleasure Beach under the name ‘The Apple and Parrot,’ in July 2014 following renovation.

It was shut down for good in 2016.

Despite being a locally listed building, there was no objection to the demolition by Blackpool Council’s conservation officer.

The new hotel, which will be built on the site after demolition work is completed, is expected to open its doors to the public in 2019.
