TERRIFIED staff were held up by masked raiders after they burst into a Blackpool shop armed with a crow bar.
Four men, wearing balaclavas and scarves to cover their faces, threatened employees in B&M Bargains on Highfield Road in South Shore, before using the weapon to force their way into an office
They then escaped with money in a black Peugeot 406 in the direction of Squires Gate Lane.
Staff are said to be in a state of shock following the terrifying raid at 6pm on Monday.
The mother of one of the employees said: “It was a very big shock, especially for them to go in with a crow bar. The staff are supporting each other.
“It’s quite busy around that area at that time of day so hopefully someone will have seen something to help police.”
The shop had closed to members of the public and police said no employees were injured.
Det Con Simon Gray, of Blackpool CID, said: “It was a shocking ordeal for the staff. They were there working and suddenly there were four people, covering their faces, in the store.
“The offenders have told them to get back while they have got into the cash office.”
Forensic teams have been at the scene and officers have checked CCTV in the area and spoken to local residents.
Det Con Gray added: “I would appeal to anybody who may have seen a group of men acting suspiciously in the Highfield Road area on Monday afternoon to contact police.
“I would also like to speak with anybody who may have seen a Peugeot 406 in the area prior to the robbery or being driven away from Highfield Road after 6pm.
“Any amount of information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be crucial to this investigation and I would urge people to come forward.”
The raiders’ car was later found abandoned on Mayfield Avenue.
A spokesman for B&M Bargains said: “We are grateful for the prompt police response and the fact no-one was hurt.”
The robbers are described as being no older than 30. One of the men was wearing a green jacket
