He was ‘covered in blood’ and had a ‘black carving knife’, a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

The stabbed man, however, climbed on to the roof of a nearby garage and a ‘siege situation’ began, the spokesman added.

He was bleeding from his injuries and at one point fell through the roof of the garage before climbing back up, she said.

The stabbed man eventually came down from the garage and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment.

The alleged offender was described as a black man with dreadlocks. He was treated for a head injury.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended.
