The Town Council, which took over the management and ownership of the town centre festive lights for 2014, intends to extend the display to Garden Street and St Georges Road for the first time as well as introducing new features elsewhere. Last year’s display covered Orchard Road, Park Road and Wood Street as well as The Square, where the town’s tree will again be located.

St Annes Carnival Queen Hannah Jeffrey will switch on the lights following a full afternoon programme of entertainment, including a children’s lantern parade, on November 28.

St Annes town clerk Sally Taylor said: “We are keen to keep improving the display as the budget permits and we are delighted with what we have in store for this year.

“The primary lighting scheme has been refurbished and new colours are being introduced to complement the core display.

“New lamp post features are going up in Wood Street as well as fairy lights in the trees, which will add further sparkle.

“We have negotiated very hard with the supplier and this along with prudent housekeeping, has enabled the Town Council to provide the Christmas lights for less than the 2014 costs.”

Meanwhile, along with entertainment in The Square ahead of the switch on, the Pavilion cafe in Ashton Gardens will feature a Christmas market and a Santa’s Grotto, from noon.

Local crafters and artists are invited to take stalls and should contact Corrin Green at [email protected] or on 07706 424950. The switch-on weekend in St Annes is set to be followed by a Victorian-themed festive weekend on December 5 and 6.

Lytham’s Christmas lights switch-on takes place on Saturday, November 21, following afternoon programme of entertainment, details of which are still to be revealed.
