AN obsessed man turned himself into a human torch in front of his former girlfriend.

Jamie Jackson poured lighter fuel over his clothes and used a cigarette lighter to set himself ablaze.

Days earlier Jackson had tried to hang himself in his ex’s garden, Blackpool magistrates were told.

Jackson, a jobless 21-year-old, of Fairhurst Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to harassment between January 20 and 31.

He was fined £100, ordered to pay the £15 victims’ surcharge and put on a 12 months restraining order.

The woman had been in a relationship with Jackson for two years, but broke it off on January 16 as she felt his anxiety problems were leading to arguments and he was becoming paranoid, accusing her of seeing other men.

On January 20, she heard a bang on her bedroom window and looked out to see Jackson in the back garden with something wound round his neck, trying to hang himself.

Jackson was then issued with a warning notice by police not to harass his ex, but on January 31 he appeared outside her home.

He smiled repeatedly at her as he poured lighter fuel over a hoodie he was wearing and set fire to it. Jackson then ripped the hoodie off and threw it to the floor.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said: “He accepts he was silly setting fire to his hoodie while he was wearing it.

“He has now accepted the relationship is well and truly over.”
