Special Sgt Richard Cardwell and PCSO Mike Duff set up their radar gun in Rossall Grange Lane on Sunday, where they said 13 out of 35 vehicles were caught exceeding the legal limit.

“Please let this be a timely reminder to obey speed limits. They are in place for a reason,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

PCSO Mike Duff and PCSO Mike Joyner later set up a speed trap in West Drive in Cleveleys, in response to online comments made to Insp Jon Smith in a recent Facebook question and answer session, when concerns were raised by residents.

Some 100 vehicles were checked but none were exceeding the limit.

The spokesman said: “We will repeat this next week in the necessary areas.”

The minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and three penalty points.

Motorists face disqualification if they build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of three years.

Those within the first two years of holding their licence will have it revoked if they build up six or more points, the law states.
