The event, which was also held to mark Halloween, took place at The Moorings in St Annes.

The evening, aimed at bringing together family members and friends, was a huge success.

Director Pete Wood said: “Many of our residents have grandchildren and even great grandchildren, so we wanted to unite the different generations in a fun evening which would appeal to all ages.

“It was great to see everyone together and enjoying themselves, and we even had an unexpected surprise!”

The surprise appeared in the form of comedy legend Bobby Ball who came to join residents, staff, friends and their families to kick off the firework celebrations.

Joined by his lovely wife Yvonne, Bobby took time to say hello and to share a few jokes.

Resident Naomi Leppington was thrilled to meet him.

She said: ‘I’ve always liked Cannon and Ball from being a youngster, so having Bobby walk in unannounced and join me at the table for a chat over some hot-pot was a very surreal experience.’

Entertainer Helen Jayne joined in the festivities and sang a medley of songs which soon had everyone singing along. Some even joined in the dancing.

The fun continued with prosecco, treacle toffee and black-peas, and then came the finale – a magnificent firework display that had everyone enthralled – and the rest home shrouded in a cloud of festive smoke!

Kathleen Sharples, a resident at The Moorings, said:  ‘It was the best night I have had in ages!

“The singer was excellent and the fireworks were just wonderful. Thank you to everyone for all your hard work.”

However resident Rene Holdsworth was undecided what she had enjoyed the most.

She said. “I’m not sure if I preferred the fireworks or the prosecco the most!”

In addition to The Moorings, Lakeview Resthomes have three other homes, Rosewood Lodge, Lakeview and Newfield Lodge.

They will be holding their Bonfire Night Celebrations today. Visitors are welcome.

A Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held on November 11 at The Moorings.
