Happy birthday to you! A pioneering Blackpool furniture store is celebrating a landmark anniversary.
Lefton’s Furniture Group on General Street has been proudly decking out Blackpool homes with tables, beds, and stylish leather sofas for 70 years.
The superstore first opened its doors in 1946, when brothers Reuben and Cyril Lefton took a leap of faith and set up their own business as a carpet retailer.
The move proved to be popular with resort residents, leading the brothers to broaden their horizons to all kinds of furniture, and Lefton’s as it is known was created.
Managing director Richard Lefton, proud descendant of the Lefton brothers, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating this landmark year here at Lefton’s.
“There may have been many changes to the company over the years but through all of these we have remained a family business selling quality furniture, and providing quality service, to generations of customers.
“The team here at Lefton’s have been vital to the success we have enjoyed over the years.
“We appreciate everything they have done for the company and hope they enjoy celebrating this anniversary with us.” Lionel Bunting, account director for Lefton’s, said: “I have worked for Lefton’s for 10 years and it’s like working as part of an extended family.
“People come for work and they don’t want to leave.
“I think that’s one of the reasons it’s been going for so long.
“All the staff know how the products are made and who makes them. We take them to the factories where they are made so they can see how it all comes together. I don’t know any other furniture shop that does that.
“I like to think that it will keep going and keep moving with the times.”
