A Fylde coast woman has been shortlisted for a prestigious social work award.
Lisa Shaw, 34, from Blackpool is one of 68 social workers nominated for the award of Student Social Worker at the annual Social Worker of the Year Awards, which celebrates the achievements of social workers across the UK.
Miss Shaw, who recently graduated from Manchester University, impressed the judging panel of chief social workers with her work with children at a Blackpool locality team.
Miss Shaw said: “I was really surprised when my Practice Educator told me she had nominated me for the award, and even more so when I found out I had been shortlisted!
“It was definitely a team effort.
“A student is definitely only as good as those who teach them.
“It’s an incredible start to my social work journey.
“The best part of the job is being able to work directly with children and young people.”
The winners of the Social Worker of the Year Awards will be revealed at a prestigious ceremony in London on November 27.
