SLIDESHOW: Hospice heroes appeal joy: The dream that came true

On Wednesday October 16, 2013 we launched our Hospice Heroes appeal to raise £200,000 for the biggest ever refurbishment at Trinity Hospice, which turns 30 next year.

On October 19, 10,000 Blackpool FC fans showed their support for the then manager Paul Ince by wearing masks we had printed in partnership with Radio Wave. The stunt raised £2,700 for Hospice Heroes.

Just one week after the launch we revealed the campaign had already raised £13,000.

By the beginning of November funds had reached £17,000.

On November 5 Blackpool Cricket Club kindly allowed Trinity volunteers, including a team from The Gazette, into its bonfire night celebrations to raise funds. Through ticket sales and bucket collections it raise more than £300.

On December 1 more than 1,100 of people dressed as Santa lined up along the prom to take part in the fourth annual Santa Dash. During the month several schools along the Fylde Coast took part in Reindeer Dash. The two events raised a total of £27,000.

What a way to start the New Year – On January 2 we revealed we’d hit £60,000.

On January 3 soldier brothers Gary, Bradley and Curtis Rawcliffe, took part in a mammoth speed march, wearing full kit and carrying 20kg each, from Fleetwood to Lytham, raising more than £1,500.

February 14 saw schools and business across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre taking part in our Grin and Wear It day, helping to push our target above £90,000.

On March 17 we were delighted to report we were half way there with the campaign, having reached the £100,000 milestone. It came as the first phase of work to transform Trinity and Brian House was completed.

In March we also announced the campaign had received a £25,000 boost thanks to funding from London-based Albert Hunt Trust.

Throughout April people up and down the Fylde coast were holding Trinity Tea Parties to help boost funds.

In May we auctioned a painting of the Nolan Sisters by Blackpool artist Catch 22. It was bought by Robert Wynne of the West Coast Rock Cafe for £270.

On June 20 Rock legend Rod Stewart performed to a sell-out audience at Bloomfield Road. The gig raised £25,000 for Hospice Heroes through ticket sales and a further £1,600 in bucket collections.
