SLIDESHOW: Heroes’ sea of colour!

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Wyre to show their support for a popular annual celebration.

Preesall and Knott End Gala on Saturday saw the borough become a sea of colour with a series of fabulous floats and costumes.

This year’s theme was superheroes. with Batman and Robin, Batgirls and a Superman among parade entrants.

Mark Butterworth, committee secretary, said: “It was a really good day. The weather was good and we had quite a good turnout.

“We had some great bands too – The Batala Band from Lancaster, Pilling Band, Poulton Band, Fleetwood Sea Cadet Old Boys Band and The Wyre Levee Stompers.

“They all performed in the procession, while the Blackpool Steamers brought some steam engines to take part.

“We had the usual floats and queens as well, including gala queen Katy Wood and her retenue, as well as Princess Maisie Addington-Barker and her retenue.”

Starting at the car park in Quail Home Road in Knott End, the parade walked through the town and into Preesall, finishing at the playing fields on Lancaster Road, with a fairground for the crowds to enjoy.

Mr Butterworth added: “We had the Mayor of Wyre, Tom Balmain, Lancaster and Fleetwood MP Cat Smith and Mayor of Preesall, Philip Orme involved too.

“After the procession finished the Inter Schools Football Final took place, with Pilling St Johns CofE being crowned winners.

“The weather was very good and there was a very good atmosphere too with lots of support from the local community and businesses.”
