Members of a once defunct ice arena are celebrating after it was confirmed two skating stars will visit to host a dance class.
Blackpool’s Dan Whiston and Karen Barber – best known for featuring on ITV’s Dancing On Ice show – will appear at Cleveleys Ice Arena tomorrow.
The pair will hold an open session at the North Promenade venue just months after it closed under its previous form as Jubilee Ice Arena.
A group of parents, whose children skated at the arena, have invested close to £20,000 in bringing the ice rink back into use – with all profits to be invested back into the business.
Sam Jones, one of the 12 parents behind the project, said it was a huge boost to have the duo helping out – and encouraged skaters to get involved.
She said: “Dan Whiston has always had a good link with the ice rink when he used to run skate classes with Karen Barber in the past.
“We got in touch with Dan and he said when Karen is back in the UK from her home in America they would come.
“We have people visiting from as far away as Essex and Newcastle for the class.
“We are really looking forward to it. Places are still available, so please get in touch.”
The ice arena – formerly known as Sub Zero – closed in September with the loss of 16 jobs.
Since the parents took over they have revamped the kitchen, cafe and public areas.
The class is from 2pm to 4pm with places costing £45.
