Sixth drink drive ban for red light jumper

A man was caught committing his sixth offence of drink-driving after police spotted him speeding down the middle of a seafront road at St Annes on January 31 at 4.30pm.

Anthony Saleem overtook other vehicles, went through a red light and drove on the wrong side of the road.

Saleem, 46, of Clifford Road, North Shore, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and driving without due care and attention.
He was disqualified from driving for 22 months, fined £200 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

A breath test showed 81 microgrammes of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit. He had five previous drink-driving convictions.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client had a long-term problem with alcohol which had reared its head again.
