Six churches lead procession at Kirkham and Wesham Club Day procession

After heavy rain at last years Kirkham and Wesham Club Day procession, the conditions could hardly have been more different this time around, as hundreds enjoyed the traditional event in glorious sunshine.

The two towns’ six churches, each represented by its own rose queen, led the procession of witness which started from St Joseph’s Church, Wesham and weaved its way through Kirkham town centre and back before a variety of celebrations through the afternoon and beyond.

Club day organising committee chairman Angela Hunter said: “It was a wonderful day – the weather was beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for better, especially after last year’s rain.

“The children in particular love to take part and although they were tired afterwards, they were already enthusiastic about doing it all again next year.

“As in previous years, many families had relatives returning home to be part of this annual town event. It never ceases to amaze me how far people will travel and also the level of commitment shown by everyone involved with Club Day. For many local family calendars, it is as important a time in local family calendars as Christmas.

“The Club Day committee would like to thank all the parents and organisers, bands, scouts and marshals, without whose efforts this historical procession would not remain as part of our town’s annual event calendar.

“Additionally, a big thank you to all the spectators who turned out to support and encourage friends and relatives.

“The continuing success of this historic annual event again proved that our community spirit in Kirkham and Wesham is alive and well.”
