Single spot of blood catches out burglar

Craig Murray took two charity boxes, including one for Cancer Care, and two bottles of cider when he broke in the Beach Terrace Cafe, St Annes

Murray, 24, formerly of South Promenade, St Annes, now living at Park Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to burglary.

He was bailed for pre-sentence reports and will be sentenced later by District Judge Huw Edwards sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Claire Harris, prosecuting, said the security alarm at the Beach Terrace Cafe went off on April 17 about 12.15am.

A window had been smashed and DNA from a spot of blood on a fridge marched that of Murray’s, the court heard.

Martin Hillson, defending, told the judge that Murray said two men he owed money to had pressured him to break in because they thought there was money in the cafe till.
