'Shame on the cowboy roofer ripping people off': Reader reaction after roofer scams Blackpool carer out of thousands
A Blackpool carer has been left substantially out of pocket after paying a roofer upfront for materials and labour.
Laverne Wickers, 50, who lives with and cares for her disabled daughter Paige, 27, said she was scammed out of money for a job that was not completed.
She has been left with an unfinished roof which another firm is now having to put right and debris in her garden, which will cost her further money to remove.
David Rix, 29, who owns scaffolding business Crown Scaffolders has now stepped in to help.
He described the work as “atrocious” and has called in his friends at Kirkham Roofers, in Kirkham to fix the job “at cost price”.
Here's what you had to say....
Always remember no decent builder will say he wants the money up front, and if he does then don't employ him.
I have a couple of builders I would warn people to stay away from.
They are still getting work.
They give the great quote that beats everyone.
People pay in 2 stages and time schedules never met followed by the we've found more problems.
I am always looking for tradesmen from plasterers painters builders maintenance people and it's a hard struggle to find decent x
This is awful, decent roofer would not ask for money up front and leave such a mess.
Name and shame
Well in this day and age we should be filming their work for the our protection and offer them a copy for their portfolio.... this will prove if they are good tradesmen, tell them this before they under take the job you wish to be done, soon know if they are genuine!!!
Be nice if the Gazette named the dodgy roofer so others know not to use them...
Every credit to the scaffolding firm and Kirkham Roofers for stepping in to help at cost price.
Shame on the cowboy roofer ripping people off. I hope he gets what he deserves.
Name and shame, scum bags.
This is awful. you should name and shame them as people should know who to avoid. xxx
If anyone knows Lavern can they ask her to contact me through Facebook, I had the exact same problem last year, £3000 and 10 weeks with no roof and was told by trading standards that this was a civil matter and take him to court, impossible as he is nowhere to be seen wonder if it’s the same person.
I know this lady very well.
She's a heart of gold and very genuine. X
