A MAN is being quizzed by detectives as a 43-year-old man fights for his life in hospital after being seriously assaulted.

The attack happened just before midnight on Saturday at the junction of Hatfield Road and Broomfield Avenue in Fleetwood.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the victim was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital with serious head injuries.

Doctors confirmed he had fractured his skull and he was immediately placed in an induced coma before being transferred to Preston Royal Hospital.

He remains in a critical but stable condition and a 21-year-old man is helping police with their inquiries.

Det Insp Phil Jones, of Fleetwood CID, said: “At the time of the incident we know a number of people were in the area and I believe some of them will know both the victim and the other people involved.

“We now have a man in an extremely serious condition in hospital and so we would urge anyone who may have information about what happened to contact the police as soon as possible.”
