LOAN company Wonga has confirmed it is to renew its sponsorship of Blackpool FC.

The money-lending company has been the club’s shirt sponsor since the start of the Premier League season in 2010.

The deal caused a stir at the time, with many supporters claiming Wonga were not a suitable sponsor for the club.

But they went a long way towards winning the fans over with a series of marketing campaigns and incentives for the Tangerine Army.

As well as Pool, they sponsor Scottish Premier League side Hearts and have recently agreed a deal with Newcastle United - a move which drew criticism from MPs for the level of interest charged by Wonga on its 30-day loans.

With their current deal at Bloomfield Road coming to an end, a spokesperson for Wonga confirmed they will be on Pool’s famous tangerine shirts for at least two more seasons.

He told The Gazette: “It’s true we’ve extended the deal and will be sponsoring Blackpool for two more seasons.”
