Summerfield Day Nursery in St Annes sent the cards after the landmark event with a garden party – and as the nursery shapes up for its annual summer fun day this weekend, a letter has arrived from Buckingham Palace saying how grateful Her Majesty is for the ‘splendid’ cards.

Lady in waiting Annabel Whitehead wrote to the
staff and children of Summerfield Nursery on the Queen’s behalf:

“The Queen wishes me to thank you for the splendid handmade cards which you have sent on the occasion of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

“The Queen was touched to hear of the garden party you held in honour of Her Majesty’s special day and the Queen hopes everyone had a happy time.

“I am to send Her Majesty’s best wishes to you all and thank you once again for your thoughfulness in writing as you did.”

Nursery manager Adrienna Taylor said: “All the groups made cards and the children really enjoyed it.

“They were absolutely thrilled to see the letter which arrived from Buckingham Palace. It will take pride of place in the nursery.

“They also had a wonderful time at the garden party and everyone is really looking forward to the fun day.”

The Summerfield fun day, at the nursery in St Annes Road East and featuring a wide array of stalls and games, takes place on Saturday from 11am to 2pm and everyone is welcome.

Last year, Summerfield celebrated its 40th anniversary and currently offers 76 places including a 18-capacity purpose-built baby unit.
