The search for a Lytham man who went missing while on a night out in York has been put on hold.

North Yorkshire Police have confirmed that river searches for missing man Rory Johnson, 29, have been called off temporarily after their regional underwater search team determined that bad weather conditions made searches dangerous.

An assessment will be made again tomorrow morning by the underwater search team to see whether it is safe for searches to resume.

Former Lytham High School student Mr Johnson, who now lives in Skipton, was last seen by his friend at 12.15am on Friday when he left the York Central Travelodge where they were staying the night.

He never returned to the hotel and failed to turn up for work on Friday evening. Police say his mobile phone was also going to answer phone and he has not been in contact with his family.

It is feared that Mr Johnson may have gotten into difficulty while walking near the River Ouse.

Police added that the investigation was continuing with officers following up enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage.

Mr Johnson is described as white, 5ft 11in tall, with a slim build and short blond hair. He was wearing a round-neck black top, blue jeans and white and navy trainers.

Anyone who remembers seeing him around the night of his disappearance is urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting the reference number 12150207141.
