The man, who has asked not to be named for fear of retaliation, is now calling for the public’s help in catching the man responsible.

The man, who lives in the town, was enjoying a night out at Toast nightclub on Wood Street in the early hours of July 6 when he says he was struck in an unprovoked attack.

He said: “I had nipped outside for a cigarette and I didn’t know anything about it until I was suddenly hit from behind. It was totally unprovoked – there was no reason for it at all.”

The punch knocked the 41-year-old to the ground and left him with lasting damage from the injury to his jaw.

“I got myself back up and looked around – I just wondered what on earth had happened to me,” he said.

After the attack the man’s mother took him to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where doctors X-rayed his jaw and confirmed a fracture. He was transferred to Royal Preston Hospital where he was fixed with a brace to his teeth to help secure his jaw, but may need surgery in the future.

He added: “It’s still really painful and my jaw isn’t level. I have to keep pushing it down with my teeth.

“I haven’t been out in St Annes since. I’d rather be in Blackpool where I feel safer.

“I am just desperate to find out who did this, and why they did it to me.”

Det Con Gary Armour said the police were investigating the assault, which happened shortly after 2am, and are keen to speak to the man pictured in these CCTV images, who may have information about the incident.

The man, or anyone with information about the attack, should contact Det Con Armour on (01253) 604157.
