Resort tops list for impotence prescriptions

From November 2015 to October 2016, 82 prescriptions were doled out per 1,000 men in the FY postcode area, researched by pharmacy Treated.com showed.

Northamption and Dorchesterwere rated second and third, with 77.6 and 72 prescriptions respectively.The findings were revealed as it was announced Viagra could soon be available over the counter.

Men would be able to buy the drug, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction in those aged 18 and over, after a chat with a pharmacist.

The proposal is set out in a consultation that runs until Monday, April 17, from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Viagra, which works by relaxing blood vessels, works for about eight hours and is to be used ‘on demand’.

Erectile dysfunction can be caused by a range of conditions, including psychological problems, but can also be a sign of underlying heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure.
