Resort set for royal clean-up

The two-day tidy-up, on March 4 and 5, will be held as part of the national Clean for The Queen campaign.

It will cover areas such as North Shore (Devonshire Road), Bispham (Bispham Road), Marton (Vicarage Lane) and South Shore (Harrowside).

The big clean will be carried out by Blackpool Council’s Environmental Services Team in partnership with local community group Clean Up Blackpool (CLUB).

Among the activities planned will be clean ups of buildings and shop frontages, replacement of old litter bins and mechanical cleans of roads and traffic islands.

There will also be clean ups in local parks and open spaces, planting of new plants and shrubbery, plus litter picks to be carried out with the help of local volunteers, including some from local businesses.

The Clean for the Queen Campaign aims to give the country a national clean up ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday and is being backed by the Government and charities such as Keep Britain Tidy and the Campaign to Protect Rural England.

Coun Peter Callow, Mayor of Blackpool said: “This is a tremendous initiative to be involved with and we are delighted to be supporting the national campaign to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday in this way.

“Our community and environmental teams are already doing a tremendous job trying to make Blackpool one of the cleanest coastal towns in the country and this project will help still further.”
