Lady luck is clearly looking down favourably on Blackpool.

A resort bingo hall has proved its punters are having a ball as it ranked second in a list of the UK’s luckiest towns.

Mecca Bingo, on Talbot Road, narrowly missed out on the top spot in the National Bingo Game Distribution Group’s table.

The hall boasts 27 wins in the last year, with delighted bingo players walking away with a grand total of £307,833.

Only Mecca Bingo Forge in Glasgow was found to be luckier, where players bagged a whopping £322,833.34 across 29 wins in the last year.

Cheryl Gifford, manager of the Blackpool branch, said she was ‘thrilled’ for the resort’s players.

Clubs in Aberdeen, Dundee, and Hamilton also featured among the top 10 luckiest towns, based on winnings calculated between October 1, 2015 and September 30 this year.

Ms Gifford, manager at Mecca Bingo, said: “We’re thrilled to have been named the luckiest town in England and the second luckiest town in the UK.”

“Whilst winning is of course a fantastic feeling, I think it’s fair to say Mecca Bingo Blackpool is more than just a place to win cash and prizes – we’re part of the community.

“Our customers use the club as a hub for meeting their friends and family, and rely on the venue for fun, entertainment and companionship.”

The ‘lucky list’ has been released to mark National Bingo Week, which runs from November 14 to November 20, and celebrates 30 years of the national bingo game.
