Resort is on list of areas of Living Wage blackspots

The areas in the North West with the largest proportion of jobs paying less than the Living Wage are West Lancashire (38.3 per cent), Blackpool (33.9 per cent), Rossendale (33.7 per cent), Allerdale (33.2 per cent) and Oldham (32.9 per cent).

The areas with the smallest proportion of jobs below the Living Wage were Copeland (11.3 per cent), Manchester (15.8 per cent), Salford (16.4 per cent), Fylde (17.7 per cent) and Halton (19 per cent).

The North West average is 23.6 per cent and the UK average is 21.7 per cent.

The GMB union is publishing the statistics to mark the launch of its 2015 campaign to get every local authority signed up to the Living Wage – 134 out of 
375 local authorities in England and Wales have so far implemented the Living Wage for their lowest-paid staff.

The current Living Wage is £7.85.
