Resort on insolvency listings

Blackpool has been named in a hotspot list for insolvency rates.

The resort was named 8th highest on the list with 37.8 people per 10,000 adults in the population declared insolvent in England and Wales in 2014.

Denibighshire was highest with 43.3 while seaside resorts Torbay and Scarborough also featured highly.

The figures, released by the Insolvency Service, show Blackpool was fourth on the list of bankruptcy rates with nine people per 10,000 adults over the same period.

Again, seaside resorts featured with Torbay, Weymouth and Eastbourne included.

At the other end of the spectrum, the places where people were least likely to be declared insolvent in 2014 were in London or the Home Counties.

The City of London was the area were people were least likely to be declared bankrupt, with just one new case recorded in 2014.

Chiltern, Vale of White Horse and Wycombe were also among the areas with the lowest bankruptcy rates.
