A well-known Blackpool DJ will now be behind a till as well as a turntable as the owner of a new retail business.
Lynn Vaughan, who for years has been involved with The Tache nightclub in Corporation Street, is now embarking on a new venture with a little help from Blackpool Council’s Get Started team.
Voluptuous Ladies, which Lynn says offers beautiful clothing to suit sizes 18 and upwards, is situated at the mini mall on Church Street.
But a few months ago the shop was just an idea until she got in touch with the team at Get Started, which offers bespoke business support to aspiring entrepreneurs.
With one-to-one support, mentoring, free courses and much more, Get Started – part of the Start Up Lancashire service supported by the European Regional Development Fund – helped her to get into business.
And Lynn is convinced she has found a gap in the market.
She said: “There is a lack of choice locally for the curvy girl and I wanted to offer another option.
“I love shopping but sometimes find it hard to find that perfect fit.
“I asked around and found there are many people struggling too.
“I’m starting to build a client base and the news is spreading that I’m here.
“It has been a slow start but I know that’s expected as a new business. I’m spreading the word and selling online too.
“The shop is taking off and I’m very pleased that I made the decision to open my own business – it’s a great feeling.
“I was made redundant from my admin role in Lancaster so I was looking for something new. I had a lot of clothes that I did not need any more and which were good quality so that gave men the idea and I started selling them.
“Then I decided to make a go of it.
She said as well as the range of larger sized clothing there is a selection of rock clothing.
She said: “I have a lot of unique items and people have told me they have been looking for ths kind of thing for a while.
“I have been working seven days a week in the run up to Christmas so it has been hectic but I am enjoying it.”
Lynn continues to DJ around the area.
Blackpool Council has helped more than 1,000 people start their own businesses over the last seven years.
Coun Fred Jackson, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for urban regeneration, said: “The Get Started team is doing an excellent job and I would urge anyone interested in starting up a business to get in touch with them and make use of their expertise.”
