Blackpool’s equality and diversity officer Ian Ashton has won the Lesbian and Gay Foundation Outstanding Achievement Award.
The LGF Awards celebrate the achievements of people working towards equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.
PC Ashton was given the award “for his tireless commitment to the community both on and off-duty, and his support and knowledge of LGB&T issues”.
Denise Machin, who nominated Ian for the award for the support he gave her and her family following the death of her eldest son, said: “I’m overwhelmed and very emotional.
“Ian’s knowledge, experience and overall support really helped, and he richly deserves this award.”
PC Ashton, said “I hope by my getting this award it demonstrates that Lancashire Police is continuing to do good work around LGB&T issues.”
