Rescue operation carried out off Blackpool coast after missing person report

A rescue operation was carried out off the coast of Blackpool as fears were raised that a person was in trouble in the water.

Both lifeboats from Blackpool RNLI, Lytham coastguard and Fleetwood coastguard were called to Central Pier at around 8am today.

A search area was set up between Bispham and Starr Gate. The missing person was found by police and the rescue was called off at 10am.

A Fleetwood coastguard spokesman said: “After a lengthy search of the coastline, sea and all piers, we had a call from our control room that the missing person had been found safe and well inland.

“If you see someone in disress on the coastline, don’t hesitate... call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
