RAC teams up with scout association in road safety badge campaign

Over the next three years hundreds of RAC patrols will visit Scout groups across the country to deliver safety workshops.

The motoring organisation will also sponsor the Cub Scouts’ road safety activity badge.

RAC road safety champion Jacqui Thompson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to engage and work with young people across the UK to raise awareness of road safety and to equip them with the skills to be road smart and develop as responsible and safe road users.

Hannah Kentish, the Scout Association’s youth commissioner, explained that she hopes the partnership will “empower more young people to stay safe when they are near roads”.

Department for Transport figures show that the number of children killed on Britain’s roads last year was 53, while 2,029 were seriously injured.

Road safety minister Andrew Jones said: “Everyone should know the rules of the road and the new road safety badge is a great step towards getting young people interested in helping themselves and others stay safe.”
