Pyramid Training from Whittam Avenue was founded in 2003 after its owner was approached by Blackpool Council to deliver playwork training and qualifications.

Kathryn Jurin set up Pyramid Training Services with the awarding body CACHE, who are the childcare and playwork experts.

Over the years Kathryn has recruited other members of the family into the business and now her son and two daughters with herself are directors of what then became a company Pyramid Training Solutions.

The company, which takes its name from psychologist Abraham Maslow’s theory of a hierarchy of needs, has built up contracts with employers across the North West, but has always focussed on Blackpool as its core. It has a contract with the Skills Funding Agency, the national agency responsible for funding and delivers childcare training through a consortium, AVANT, which is based in Humber.

It recently had an opportunity to partner a group in Liverpool, which allows it to deliver Business Administration, Customer Service and Team Leading training.

This came about as a direct result of its new premises, which has given the capacity to develop and grow further. As a result it has managed to employ four new staff.

Kathryn said: “The family has a real passion for what they do and in terms of childcare and playwork are driven by their commitment to ensure that children receive the very best care, attention and play opportunities.

“The team has a massive amount of experience and expertise in their backgrounds, from being registered providers of nurseries and out of school and holiday clubs, to having the relevant medical qualifications and backgrounds to be able to deliver first aid training.

“Just recently a local councillor commented in the Gazette about the high number of outstanding childminders there are in Blackpool, which was amazing to hear as Pyramid were contracted by the local authority to deliver the accredited preliminary training, along side the early years development team, which was necessary for them to become childminders and establish themselves with Ofsted.

“The new team are so excited to be able to develop and expand, primarily because they can offer new and established learners a foot on the ladder of employment and a way to develop their career.”
