Putting art and soul into Jobcentre's new image

Artwork created by Blackpool and the Fylde College students has been installed at the Fleetwood Job Centre

The Kemp Street centre now features an expansive painting at the entrance, created by Blackpool and The Fylde College art students, with a rather apt lighthouse theme and the words ‘guiding light’ painted across it.

It is a symbolic image aimed at getting across the message that the Jobcentres are places where jobseekers can feel welcome.

There will also be additional help, with informed group sessions for people interested in similar sorts of jobs, in addition to the usual one-to-one meetings.

And still more time will be spent helping with form-filling assistance and creating CVs, with the aim being to tailor sessions more closely to the needs of the individual customer.

Janina Weeks, Fleetwood Jobcentre Manager: “We are proud that, building on the existing relationship and links that the Jobcentre has with Blackpool and The Fylde College, the students of the art department agreed to work with us, creating beautiful artwork for us providing a more welcoming customer entrance for all our customers.”

District manager Carla Passarello said: “We want Jobcentres to be seen as an active part of the communities they serve and it’s wonderful to see something so completely different and eye-catching when you walk into the entrance at Fleetwood. It just shows what can be achieved when we all work together.”
