Former comedienne and freelance writer Jamie, from South Shore, will be dyeing her hair bright purple to mark International Awareness Day for Fibromyalgia and ME.

The Tower will also be lit up in the same colour, the signature colour of the awareness campaign.

Jamie – who has suffered from fibromyalgia since her teens – is the chairman of The Fibroduck Foundation, Britain’s only charity dedicated to fund-raising for biomedical research to find a cause, test and cure for the condition.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition, which causes pain all over the body.

Jamie, 44, is being sponsored to colour her ‘do’ as part of a day of fun and fundraising in Blackpool, on Tuesday.

Around 500 patients and their families are expected to come to the resort, for the special event, which will see some supporters dressed in duck suits for the day.

The event will take place in the first floor of the Layton Rakes pub, on Market Street in Blackpool, between 12.30pm and 8.15pm.

Those attending will walk down to the Tower for the big switch-on at 8.30pm.

Jamie said: “Fibroduck not only fundraises for research, but also has a strong, vibrant following.”
