The front room of the terrace property in Salthouse Avenue was badly damaged in the incident, with smoke damage to the rest of the building.

Three fire engines from South Shore, Bispham and Blackpool were called out shortly before 9pm and firefighters used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one ventilation unit to extinguish the fire.

The North West Ambulance Service was called to the scene to assess two people who escaped the fire and a fire brigade spokesman said crews were at the scene for around an hour and a half.
