He was accompanied by Lancaster and Fleetwood candidate Eric Ollerenshaw at the Storey Housing Development in Lancaster, where he discussed the future of the gas industry.

Mr Cameron said: “What I would say is recovering unconventional gas will only go ahead with stringent environmental safeguards.

“I hope that reassures people that there is no danger of some dash into technology without the safeguards in place and real pay back for local people, in terms of the community pay back scheme.”

As the nation goes to the polls tomorrow the Prime Minister emphasised the nation should vote for a government that would not “suck money out of the area.”

He said: “It is one of those seats that will determine who we wake up with, an economic plan that’s working, jobs being created, livelihoods being pushed forward or we get Ed Milliband backed by the SNP with an unstable dangerous government that would suck money out of the area.

“Lets keep getting the help to buy scheme for young people in Lancashire so they can afford to buy homes of their own.

“Lets not go back to square one and not crash the economy.”
