Police are hunting for a truck driver they say drove past a stop sign at the junction of St Andrew’s Road South and St Thomas’ Road and hurtled into a black BMW before fleeing the scene – without checking to see if the woman and child were hurt.

Both vehicles smashed into a garden wall, which was demolished in the collision on Friday.

The Transit recovery truck, which had been travelling along St Andrew’s Road South, away from the town centre, and the car were both badly damaged.

Police said the male driver of the truck fled the scene and an investigation is underway to track him down.

The 27-year-old driver of the BMW, which was travelling along St Thomas’ Road towards Clifton Drive South, and her child were both taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital to be checked over.

The woman, who is pregnant, suffered leg and internal injuries.

PC Adam Lloyd, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “We urgently need to speak to the driver of the recovery truck so we can get his version of events and urge him if he sees this appeal, to get in touch.

“Fortunately the pregnant woman wasn’t seriously injured in the collision, but the recovery truck driver could not have known this for sure when he left the scene.

“If anyone knows anything about this incident to the whereabouts of the driver we need to speak to, please get in contact.”
