St Mary’s Pre-School, in Mayfield Avenue in South Shore, has been rated ‘good’ by inspectors.
The nursery, which cares for 32 youngsters between the ages of two and four, was also found to have outstanding features.

Jacqueline Midgley, from education watchdog Ofsted, said: “The quality of teaching is good, and on some occasions outstanding. Children’s safety and welfare are central to everything practitioners do.
“Children’s speech and language development is particularly well supported, including those who speak English as an additional language, and partnerships with parents and other professionals are strong.”
To further improve, staff should talk to each more, Ms Midgley said.
Children should also be given the chance to answer questions and fully engage in conversations, she said.
