Four years on from the last time inspectors were at the Ansdell premises, they said after their recent visit: “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school.

“The head and senior leaders have put in place monitoring procedures so they always have an up-to-date knowledge of the school’s strengths and areas which need to improve.”

The school is praised for its ‘caring, supportive and well-structured learning environment’, while headteacher Philip Wood and colleagues also earn plaudits for ensuring an even great proportion of pupils exceed their expected level of progress in maths.

Ironically, considering it was announced just last week that the sixth form at the school is to close. that section also comes in for praise.

Mr Wood said: “There is much to celebrate and to be proud of in this report.

“I am delighted with the totally deserved recognition of a staff team which ‘provides a caring, supportive and well-structured learning environment.

“There is notable praise too for our sixth form. What a pity that lack of funding is forcing its closure.”
