A power cut in St Annes that left residents in the dark has been blamed on damaged equipment.

Several properties close to the St Annes Old Links golf club have been affected by the blackout, with some not expected to have power restored until 11.30pm tonight.

A statement from Electricity North West, issued at 5.15pm, said: “We have a high voltage fault affecting St Annes.

“This fault is due to damage to our equipment. Our engineers are aware of the problem. Our team is now on site and working to restore supply.

“We expect to restore power to most customers by 8pm today. We expect that customers close to the point of damage will be restored by 11.30pm today.

“This is our best estimate at this time and may change as additional information becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this interruption.”
