AROUND 1,500 properties in Blackpool have been left without power following a power cut.

Engineers from Electricity North West are currently working to restore power to the homes and businesses affected in central Blackpool.

Bonny Street Police Station and Blackpool Sea Life Centre are among the businesses affected.

It is thought a cable has been severed on The Promenade where up to seven different contractors are working on the regeneration of the area.

A spokesman for Electricity North West said: “We currently have 1,500 customers off.

“Our engineers are trying to find out the reason why and get people back on the grid as soon as is possible.”

Blackpool Council’s Emergency Planning Team are letting all of the town’s vital services know.

A spokesman for the Council said: “They are making sure that any vulnerable people in the area will be looked after.”

The Gazette understands power has been restored to the Police Station, either by the engineers or generators, and that businesses in General Street have been told it could be 8pm before they are reconnected.
