Eighties pop stars are set to wow the crowds on the Prom for Blackpool’s Switch-On weekend.

And comedian Al Murray, The Pub Landlord, will preside over the events as comedy comes to the Comedy Carpet for the first time.

The new-look Illuminations’ launch weekend will take place from Friday to Sunday, September 4 to 6 on the Tower Festival Headland, with tickets on sale at 10am Monday.

Blackpool iFest’s Saturday night show will feature a line-up of chart-toppers headlined by Bananarama, with Jason Donovan, Paul Young, Limahl, Owen Paul and T’Pau hosted by ex-Fun House presenter Pat Sharp, all in association with Vintage TV.

And the weekend’s celebrations will close with Al Murray hosting and headlining, alongside stand-up stars Chris Ramsey, Alun Cochrane, Tiff Stevenson, Carl Hutchinson and Craig Campbell.

The first 5,000 people to snap up a £30 weekend ticket for Saturday and Sunday’s shows will also get a Friday night Switch-On party wristband, with artists for the big night yet to be confirmed.

Keren Woodward of Bananarama said: “We’re really excited to be a part of the Vintage iFest this year and bring our performance to Blackpool. We have a lot of fans there so are looking forward to entertaining them and being a part of this great event.”
