A councillor is hoping to put the brakes on town hall proposals to lease land to a developer as part of controversial plans to redevelop the Stanley Park golf course.

Coun Tony Williams, leader of the Conservatives on Blackpool Council, has called in a decision by the ruling Labour executive to appropriate land on East Park Drive ahead of a planning application being submitted to build a £45m Adrenalin World adventure park and up to 250 holiday lodges on the site.

He says the decision should come under further scrutiny and wants the issue to go before the full council at a future date.

Coun Williams said he felt the public consultation has been “inadequate”, and that most of the objections had been wrongly dismissed as irrelevant until the planning stage of the process.

He also says equality issues have not been properly considered in relation to the loss of the land having the “potential to prejudicially affect particular groups.”

The call in is expected to be considered later next week, when a decision will be made as to whether the item should be brought before a future meeting of the full council.
