Residents only parking proposed for Blackpool street

A residents-only parking scheme is set to be introduced on a Blackpool street which is the only one in its neighbourhood which currently does not have restrictions.

Blackpool Council is poised to adopt the measure on Fenton Road, between Boothley Road and George Street, in response to complaints the street becomes clogged with cars.

A council report says: "The council has received complaints from residents of Fenton Road regarding people using Fenton Road to park in as it is the only street in the area that does not have residents parking restrictions.

"The council first consulted on putting a bay on the eastern side of Fenton Road and double yellow lines on the western side.

"Residents were not content with this proposal as they considered that it would not provide sufficient parking spaces on the street."

Following a second consultation, it was decided to provide parking bays on both sides of the street while narrowing and strengthening the pavement thus enabling vehicles to park partly on the road and partly on the footway.

The proposed scheme will now be advertised and any objections taken into account before a final decision is taken on whether or not to go ahead.
