Coastal Key Housing applied to change a property on Holmfield Road into a facility for four teens aged 16 and 17.

The home was bought in 2016 before being used as a “family home” while Coastal Key Housing “brought the infrastructure up-to-standard for its desired purpose”, documents said.

The company has now applied for a change of use to a "semi-independent supported facility", to ensure "no other provider can be within a close proximity" to the building, which it believed would have "negative implications" for residents.

In the application, Patrick Meehan, director of Coastal Key Housing, said: "We work to ensure our residents are polite, kind, and as helpful as possible towards our community, and our residents are often to be found having a chat, sharing cakes or helping take shopping into our neighbours houses.

"The safety of our residents is our top priority. If the residents feel safe, they are likely to be settled within their placement."
